The only cookies are the analytics ones
And only if you accept them. There are no session cookies, no advertising cookies, no personalisation cookies and no social media pixels. The fonts are served from our own server, so your browser does not contact Google to load them either.
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which challenges get played, which pages get read and from what kind of device. It helps us decide where the time is worth spending; it is not combined with anything and it is not used for advertising.
Until you accept, Google’s script loads in denied mode: it writes no cookie and stores no identifier in your browser. Google receives only an anonymous, stateless signal it uses to estimate aggregate totals. If you accept, these two cookies are added:
| Cookie | Who sets it | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google Analytics | Telling a returning visitor from a new one | 2 years |
_ga_5GL8EMPLBQ |
Google Analytics | Keeping the session state for that property | 2 years |
You can change your mind at any time from Cookie preferences, in the footer. If you reject after having accepted, those two cookies are deleted straight away. The site works exactly the same either way.
What your browser does store
The challenges and the rulebook assistant need to remember a few things between visits. For that we use local storage (localStorage), which is not the same as a cookie: it is never sent to the server. It stays on your device and we cannot read it.
| Key | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
pg:<mode>:<date> |
The day’s game in a challenge: which players you have already tried, so reloading does not start you over | Clears itself when the day changes |
pg:pairs-men:game |
The game in progress in the pairs challenge: lives and streak | Until the game ends |
pg:pairs-men:best |
Your best streak in the pairs challenge | Until you delete it |
pg:rules-chat:<language> |
Your conversation with the rulebook assistant, so it is still there if you reload | 24 hours |
pg:consent |
Your answer to the cookie banner, so you are not asked again on every visit | Until you delete it |
None of this identifies you or is combined with anything else. It is games you have played and text you have written.
How to delete it
All of the above disappears if you clear the site’s browsing data from your browser. In most of them you get there from the padlock in the address bar, under something like “Site settings” or “Clear data”. Browsing privately also stops anything being kept from one session to the next.
Deleting it means losing your saved games and your chat history, and the cookie banner asking you again. The site carries on working the same.
